Corsica, the fourth largest island in the Mediterranean (after Sicily, Sardinia and Cyprus) is located approximately 170 km from the south of France and 90 km from the northwest of Italy. It is one of the 18 regions of France, and has been designated a territorial collectivity, thus having a greater degree of autonomy than the other Fren regions. Corsica is a mountainous island, being traversed lengthwise, from north to south, by a mountain range with 20 peaks with heights of over 200 2000 meters, of whi the highest is Monte Cinto, at 2,706 meters.

Ajaccio is the largest city and capital of Corsica, but still enjoys a relaxed way of life. The city's most famous tourist attraction is the Maison Bonaparte on Rue Saint-Charles, the house where Napoleon was born on August 15, 1769. The house is now a museum disaying period furniture, weapons, portraits and family documents.
